Question to Powerfam-
Are we allowed to discuss/propose sales and/or trades on this forum, or does that reflect poorly on COMC for any reason. I'd love to start a section where we can barter, sell, and trade, but would understand if some don't feel like that would be okay.
Thoughts?
COMC has been talking about setting up their site to trade cards. Until that happens, I do not think they would mind 2 people agreeing to a trade on this site and then making a $1 offer on COMC for the cards to change hands.
I do think they might have a problem with people on COMC trading or buying cards without going through COMC. Seems like I saw something about that in one of their policies. Maybe it was one of the conditions for becoming a seller. Not sure though....
yes i see trading on the Beckett site and it did look interesting but are we not trading already but in a more effiecent way? we just trade debits on a computer screen from cards we sold for those trade debits to work with. i can see very few occasions at this point to trade a card straight up for a card, it would be more like trying to trade shaq for ben wallace. like the other guy was saying we don't even have an audience for graded cards right now. my other comment is that what does it matter who you are discounting your card to? even cardshark? if you are satisfied with the money why would you care if he flips it? you will still get to see it, and it will probably never leave the building for a long time so that will be its home, comc, redmond, washinton. and my final observation, maybe its a good thing to filter out personal relationships some times as i am not sure i want to meet the buyers making some of these offers, you know 95 percent off and they want another 30 percent of that off, i thought that was actually an advantage over some of the bloodshed at ebay. and as far as long wait times the answer for me was to send 50 to 100 rush so i would have something to look forward to sooner. and yes there would seem to be a lot of upside here at comc especially as it seems the east coast is way underrepresented up to now.
As far as being able to talk about sales and other issues with COMC, HELL YES! And I encourage it. Everytime anyone has ever mentioned creating a forum or message board to them on their blog, it gets swept under the rug and none of the COMC touch base about why or why not to have one. Wondering if the members of their staff will sign up on our board??? I wish they would. But it almost like they have set up the site from us communicating with each other. They must be from Old East Germany...
I agree, powerfam. They collect all this info on their sellers..... But(unless I don't know how) there is no way to find out anything about the other sellers. What do they use this info for? Do they sell the info? I hope not.
At any rate, in the middle of an offer, counteroffer scenario, it would be nice to talk to the other person if you have the desire to do that. Currently, we do not have that ability. I wish other sellers on COMC would join this forum......
As a collector for 25 years, I love to trade cards and have done so since I was 10 years old. However, I don't see a need for it on this site. Reason being is that there is no transaction fee being charged to buy a card from someone or to purchase from someone else. Everytime I sell some cards whether it be for 25 cents or 10 dollars, I immediately purchase the same amount from someone else. In essence, it creates a three or more person trade as I'm not cashing out or having to put more money in. The most common time I have put money in is to pay for shipping cards that I have purchased.
I am like you, jefflasvegas. I tend to purchase more cards as soon as I get money in my store credit account. I just started selling my own cards last month and have gotten a little money accumulated. But unfortunately, I was/am too impatient and tend to spend more money than I take in. And I think I tend to be a little picky about how much I sell my cards for because I think they are in pretty good shape and some even have sentimental value to them. Is it odd to attribute such a quality to a baseball/football card???????
Anyway, COMC is a great site and I even enjoy just browsing all the cards. I actually didn't know how many different varieties of cards came out each year. I knew there were a lot..... But to actually see them makes you realize how many different sets are put out every year. Everyone should definitely be able to find something they like on COMC.
Throughout the 80's and 90's, the big thing to me was having a player's autograph. Catching that player at the game, a card show, or even the airport, etc. to get their autograph because we love the game was a rush and the greatest experience in itself. To me your childhood legend or favorite sports idol is probably the greatest thing a sports fan could endure. Nowadays, high profile athletes are too stuck-up to sign autographs, and besides, you can find it in any regular ole pack of present year cards. To me, that's not a real autograph. Now their are falsified fans of the game who would turn around and just use those autographs for profit and/or counterfeit memorbillia to taint the hobby. Sucks. Because after all, it's not about the players and all of their money. It's about the fans and giving them a passion of sport in their life! Besides our families of course, Is it too late to for us to salvage what once was the greatest thing in most of our lives?...
From a player's point of view it can be off putting to see "fans" and "hobbyists" in town after town invade their privacy, behave rudely, being asked to sign multiple items only to find them in a store later. They realize their autographs are being used to "make money" for the requestor.
Perhaps take it on yourself to never ask for more than one autograph, and make eye contact and say a polite "thank you" and something positive like "I enjoyed watching you play last night" or "nice comeback year you had in 1970".
Goes a long way.
