Maybe Tim can implement a blocked "offerer" option. His behavior goes beyond excuses and good judgement.
Also..... in regards to other people on COMC .... At times, I would like to know who is buying my cards. If it is a seller or just a buyer that is not a seller. I wonder why COMC does not post this info? I can understand if the buyer is anonymous and does not want his name on the website. But I would like to know at least if the person that buys the card is a seller also on COMC. About the only way you know that is if an offer is made or the card is relisted.
I often make an offer just to let the person I am buying from know who is buying the card. Sometimes that will open up a 'trade scenario'. I wonder if this info is available somewhere on COMC? Does anyone know?
I just had a card sell the other day, a Tom Brady Jersey card. I was asking $6 for it. Was offered $4. I mulled it over for a few days, looked to see if the person was a seller on the site to make sure it wasn't going to be flipped, and hit the accept button when I didn't see the name on the sellers list. Low and behold it is now listed by this person for $10! I'm not too happy about this and would not have done the transaction if I knew this person was a seller. The person seems to have a lot of cards listed so I dont know when COMC added them. I would like to see that sellers list updated more if this is going to happen. Even 4-5 days later the seller is still not listed. It was not cardshark though he did hit some of my lower priced cards recently too. If you want a name let me know and I'll post it.
Jbnark in response to wanting to know who is buying the cards. Usually if it is another seller and if they are trying to resell the card, the link for the listing # in your dashboard will take you right to the new posting and will give you the name. Other than that we are out in the dark. I assume the card is shipped to someone if it does not show back up on the site.

Just a note about flipping cards.
You have to remember a few things when selling. 1. ) Did i get the price that I wanted? If so good for you. 2.) Could I have gotten more? Most likely but how long would that have taken? Now I have money to buy that card I have wanted before someone else grabs it. 3.) The most important part..Many people on the site are business people, we buy and sell all day long, this site allows us the freedom to both sell more cards but also pickup cards to resell. Every once in a while you find a card that goes in your personal collection but this is a business of buying and selling. Right from the owner of the site to the new guy coming in.
I will be the VERY first to say I buy ALOT of cards from the site and yes I flip them.. But I feel I never lowball anyone, I might offer less then the asking price but no one can say honestly that I have ever offered 50% of the asking price. If the card is already at 75% markoff and i want it I buy it. If I am making an offer on 10 to 15 or more cards from the same seller then I will offer a little less. And my markup is slightly higher then I paid for the card(s).
But on the other hand some sellers/buyers such as SECONDADAM is nothing more then a lowballer that respects nothing and no one. He is the reason why so many people are complaining about flipping. He/she will offer 50% of the asking price even when the card is already listed at a discount of 75%. And this person does not take no for an answer.. Keeps coming back with the same painful offer.
So please dont get mad at the flippers in general, get mad at the ones that try and steal the card and then turn around and ask full book or higher.
First of all let me say that I am relatively new to all this buying, selling and negotiating. And I have not had to do that in my own job. I am a computer/systems programmer. So, I have interacted with a machine most of my business career. However, I do not consider myself socially inept(like some computer people I know).
But, sometimes I do not know if an offer generally means 'let's negotiate'(all part of the game)... Or does it mean that is the highest price that the person will pay. Generally on 2nd(and especially 3rd) offers, I am giving the buyer my lowest offer to sell or, if I am buying it is my highest offer to buy. There can be exceptions to this(especially if multiple cards are involved). And like I have said before, sometimes it is a way to let someone know I am the buyer of the card(like sellers on here).
As far as flipping cards go..... I generally buy cards that I would probably want myself. And some I will price at a level to resell.
However, while I am waiting to have some cards shipped to me I might put an inordinately high price on the card. I am not really intending to sell it(like my '57 Mantle). But most people have their price for everything. So do I. If someone wanted to buy my Mantle for a $1000, I would probably let it go..... Knowing I could purchase another Mantle like it and have money to buy other cards as well. I do not intend it to be an insult to the person I purchased the card from. Some cards I have done this with and after a while I just decide I really don't want to risk losing the card and mark it not for sale.
Overall, for the most part, I am on COMC to satisfy my love of baseball collecting and hopefully sell enough cards to help finance my hobby. I told my daughter last night that right now I have spent a lot more money buying cards and paying to put cards on COMC than I have received in sales. But, someday I told her it might at least all even out.
Hi jbnark..
Well put..Here is how I see work my sales..If the offer is low and I know the person is lowballing and has been doing so to everyone like "SECONDADAM" then I will first counter with the exact asking price. If he comes back i just reject and move on.If the offer is a fair, yet low offer I will counter with a discount that I can live with if he buys the card.. He might come back with another offer or buy it or reject.. I did this with one card as an example..I was asking 85.00 he offered 51.00 and i countered with 70.00 he came back with 61.00 and again I countered with 70.00. This told him I was at my lowest and if he wanted the card it would be 70.00. He bought the card..All this took no more then 30 minutes to complete.
Also tell your daughter your not the only one sending morethen they make on cards there...LOL..I have spent WAY more on cards then I have made..But in the LONNNNG run I hope it all works out better for me..I have taken the 13,000.00 woorth of cards COMCs shows and really have better then 39,000 worth of cards on the site..Just from buying others cards and relisting them
DKSchultz - great advice on the offer game.
If I can get a price that I am happy for on a COMC cards it does not concern me that the buyer is flipping the card. We all have different ideas, strategies, favorites that factor into what we think will move. COMC has helped me upgrade my collection from a bunch of lower end stuff of interest to player collectors to some decent stuff. My collection is nothing compared to others out there, but I have done it with no money out of my pocket.
Jbnark - Thanks for the 1961 Topps High Number yesterday. It is a very nice looking card. You did a good job on your response to my offer. If you simply rejected the offer I am not sure if I would have purchased the card. The $.50 reduction (from $9.50) that you offered got me thinking and I decided that I really wanted the card and I accepted your proposal. I hope that you are able to sell more cards and buy more (some from me would be great).
You are welcome, tiger1984ws. I prefer to sell and buy from the sellers-collectors on COMC.... and especially the members of this forum. I wish there were more info on the sellers though(as I have said before). It would be nice to know who is a real collector and who is the owner of the hobby or baseball card shop down the street.
And once I get some money accumulated I would love to start buying some of the older and more expensive cards that you, DKSchultz, and other sellers have on COMC. Right now I am trying to just accumulate enough money to cover the other cards I have already sent in to be listed on COMC in the next couple of months. And I have included more of my 61 and 62 cards.
But I am also trying to find the higher number cards for my 61 and 62 sets. Some will be fairly expensive it looks like. For some reason the high number cards did not seem to make it down south here in 61 and 62.
My Dad would buy me baseball/football cards by the box every 3 or 4 weeks back then. It would make my day when he did...... And that is how I accumulated most of my cards(plus buying a pack or two after school every day or so...). And Dad did not miss most of the series Topps produced(and Fleer). But I do have a couple of gaps in my 62's and the latter numbers in 61. One of these days maybe I will be able to fill in those gaps.
Better get back to work. Talk to you guys later.
I believe those '61 and '62 sets were around, just depends on where you were buying them from. For those who haven't got the concept of what jbnark is talking about, I'll break it down for you... Unlike the cards today, the card companies sent their product out in a seperate series usually anywhere divided up into 2-5 per set. For example, the first box of the season would only contain card numbers 1-175. The second series would come out at a later date only being card numbers 176-302 of the set. This would continue on card numbers 303-??? depending on how many cards were in the set is basically how the set was broken up. Here is the kicker, it was harder to find late number cards because if a retailer wasn't completely sold out of the first batch of baseball cards that they had for sale at your local grocery store, they they would not reorder from their bubble gum distributer. Thus making the higher number from your 50's and 60's sets rare and more valuable.
Hi jbnark
What cards of mine are you looking at? Perhaps i can help you out some.
THE LOW BALLERS POINT OF VIEW.
First, sorry if low balled you.
Second, Sorry if i low balled you more then once on the same card.
NOW. REASONS
First, I buy hundereds of cards on COMC and offer on hundreds of cards each week. So it is hard to keep track on which card was offered on previously.
Second, As for flipping, dont be mad if i list the card i just pought for more, i am just making a price UNTIL I SHIP THE CARDS.
Third, for COMC. You should cap your shipping cost like you did before. I will NOT be buying as freely due to the shipping cost not being capped. I was buying really low end cards due to the shipping cap, now i woulnd touch the low end stuff because the shipping cost is more then the CARD ITSELF.
That is just me. I buy thousands of cards monthly and cannot keep track of every card offered or bid on various sites. So please dont be pissed at me!
Thanks!
PS: COMC, you website is awesome! Hope you can work your pricing so it doesnt effect the low end sellers and buyers.
Hello h4auto
I do agree with the shipping on COMCs would be nice to have it capped.. As far as lowballers and flipping. You have bought several of my cards and I can say I did not think or feel you lowballed me.. And I hope if you flip the card you make a profit, because I did when I sold you the card. I flip ALOT and I feel that if the seller sold me the card it is mine to do as I feel flip keep burn and give away. The seller got what he/ she wanted or they would not have sold the card. And if they have second thoughts about the deal after the fact.. Oh well..
my thoughts.
