Re: COMC

April 8, 2009 by powerfam

I am very interested on the "state" column because I have cards that have now been sent over 2 months now, not being on the site.  Not really sure how many COMC employees they have, but they all seem to have other jobs also. Understandable, but I just don't like to be quoted expected dates and it being changed "3" times to later dates...

2009 MLB Season

April 1, 2009 by powerfam

I don't know about any of you guys, but I am about ready to burst with all of the anxiety and anticipation for start of the season.  Besides the gambling interest I impose with my fantasy baseball league, I will watch any game that is on. Plus the new MLB network channel can fulfill all of my fix whenever there isn't a game on. While I am on here, I would like to hear from all of you, where you are from and who is your team and why...

Myself, I am from just north of Kansas City, born and raised. Kansas City Royals fan for life! (LOL, tell me about it, but there are worse teams out there.) I am partial to my Dad's teams because of course, most everyone's Dads raised them to be their baseball fan. He was born near St. Louis, so always been a cardinals fan. Growing up he was also a Yankee fan because lets face it, they were the team of the century in all major sports!

Re: Incorrect Storage fees, anyone else?

I've had a few problems with some issues, ecspecially about the staff getting back to me but for the most part everything is good. Please tell me though, how do you know if you have been charged storage fees???

I believe those '61 and '62 sets were around, just depends on where you were buying them from. For those who haven't got the concept of what jbnark is talking about, I'll break it down for you... Unlike the cards today, the card companies sent their product out in a seperate series usually anywhere divided up into 2-5 per set.  For example, the first box of the season would only contain card numbers 1-175. The second series would come out at a later date only being card numbers 176-302 of the set. This would continue on card numbers 303-??? depending on how many cards were in the set is basically how the set was broken up. Here is the kicker, it was harder to find late number cards because if a retailer wasn't completely sold out of the first batch of baseball cards that they had for sale at your local grocery store, they they would not reorder from their bubble gum distributer. Thus making the higher number from your 50's and 60's sets rare and more valuable.

Thank you brother.  I was hoping that we would get more members at a faster pace, but I am satisified. Patience is a virtue. I am happy with the turn out, but am still disappointed that COMC has not came and joined our group or mentioned it in their blog. Also convinced they didn't want us to communicate with each other.  Bad for their business???  Anyone have any theories to this... please speak up. I love the COMC site and just hope they continue to grow for the better of the hobby itself, rather than a business for all.

I'm sure if you would of pulled an autographed Martha Stewart or Dr. Phil out of that pack, you're wife would of gave you extra desert under the dinner table for a month!

Re: Buy, Sell, Trade

March 18, 2009 by powerfam

Throughout the 80's and 90's, the big thing to me was having a player's autograph. Catching that player at the game, a card show, or even the airport, etc. to get their autograph because we love the game was a rush and the greatest experience in itself. To me your childhood legend or favorite sports idol is probably the greatest thing a sports fan could endure. Nowadays, high profile athletes are too stuck-up to sign autographs, and besides, you can find it in any regular ole pack of present year cards. To me, that's not a real autograph. Now their are falsified fans of the game who would turn around and just use those autographs for profit and/or counterfeit memorbillia to taint the hobby. Sucks. Because after all, it's not about the players and all of their money. It's about the fans and giving them a passion of sport in their life! Besides our families of course, Is it too late to for us to salvage what once was the greatest thing in most of our lives?...

Re: Pricing Theory

Ebay is just a huge clustf*** and needs a little more division if you ask me. I mean, it's like going to a never ending garage sale with an outright battle for the item you picked out. Oh yea, and you're under a timed limit while doing it. COMC is a good guy site. Not agreeing with all the new charges here and there they have racked up over the past 6 months, but I guess it's their house and their rules. Everybodies gotta eat!

Re: Other COMC Sellers

Sucks to hear that stuff and I'm not knocking any buyer for their extreme lowballing but it's gotta be some sort of scam to where you accidentally hit accept offer or get online drunk with lowered inhibitions! LOL. Maybe they have gotten luck with it before, but one thing is for sure, it's annoying!!!!

Re: Pack ripping

March 15, 2009 by powerfam

I think most of the fun in buying and opening a new pack or box of cards was the fact not knowing what's inside and the gamble on whether you are getting your money's worth! I have not bought a pack of cards since 1995. If you ask me, the hobby has changed for the better and the worst in different areas.  First off, there are way too many inserts in every set. You can recieve a card and there may be several variations of that player being gold, silver, platinum, bronze, copper, coral, zenith, magenta, etc, etc. What happen to getting a simple rookie card??? I do like how they have added autographs and pieces of game worn jerseys to packs, but honestly who's to say that stuff is legit. I mean, if you cut off a piece of michael jordan's jersey that claims he actually didn't wear it but wiped his balls with it after a practice and then autographed it finally gluing it to a small sector of cardboard... may be a little more believable. And please explain to me how they got Babe Ruth's and Herbert Hoover's signature??? Not to knock cards in the present era, they look great and make things way more interesting to young collecters today.

My father ran a card shop when I was a young. (80's) The business was booming in the kansas city area and he would attend card shows all over the midwest with him and his part owners. Allthough his main revenue from the shop wasn't from cards, but still dealt with sports, I'll let your mind decifer. His card collection was decent, but what is left of it today is scraps. He made a great deal of money to live the life of a rockstar for a young 30 year-old with a family (but you really find out who your friends are when they are gambling through you). The best thing about baseball card collecting is the significance of time. The rare and older an item might be, brings back great memories. Card collecting and sports in general these days is hard for young kids to grasp because technology has almost swallowed us whole! Don't get me wrong, it makes our lives a lot easier and adventurous, but is it for our own good?!?! When the time machine comes about, I'm buying a one way trip with my family to the 1950's and buying season tickets, to the Brooklyn Dodgers!!!!!!

I have a problem with the buyer named brianbrusch. Don't believe he is a seller, but this guy needs his ass kicked. Every week he bothers me with these outrageous offers. Even after I deny them, he has come back in later days with an even lower offer than the first time. First off, don't insult me with your lowballing. And the whole idea of COMC is that it creates a community where everyone shares the great common interest of sports and collecting whether you are the buyer or the seller. Don't get me wrong, every community seems to have it's ups and down along the with "village idiot!"

Re: Buy, Sell, Trade

As far as being able to talk about sales and other issues with COMC, HELL YES! And I encourage it. Everytime anyone has ever mentioned creating a forum or message board to them on their blog, it gets swept under the rug and none of the COMC touch base about why or why not to have one. Wondering if the members of their staff will sign up on our board??? I wish they would. But it almost like they have set up the site from us communicating with each other. They must be from Old East Germany...

Re: Welcome

February 14, 2009 by powerfam

I think I check my e-mail way too many times in a day just to look for that "congratulations! Some items sold", lol. But tell me this, what is different from that e-mail, than the one that just says "item sold?"

Speaking of a down economy...

February 12, 2009 by powerfam

Heard the news that Topps and Upper Deck were going to stop making Basketball cards. I mean, I love the the NBA and I see the means as to where other sports lead the race in the card industry, but that's actually pretty big news. Who is going to be next?!!! Collecting always begins as a kid. And kids today just don't have any interest in anything that doesn't have to do with technology and video games. Tough times, call for tough parents...

Re: Welcome

February 12, 2009 by powerfam

Well, you have to give COMC some credit though. There are working with a down economy trying to bounce back into shape. I am sure that they all have part times jobs they do just to get by like all of us try to do. I promise you, the sports card industry suffers when the economy is down because people aren't spending as much on non-necessitites. You'd be suprised to see your cards start flying once they hit the market because there is always the want for them out there. Be patient. Good things will come.

COMC

February 11, 2009 by powerfam

What a great site?! I mean, card shows anymore are boring and you are lucky to find what you're actually looking for unless some ho-bo who fell into some cards because of a dead grandpa, but it also blows ALL other similar sites out of the water. I hate to say technology is taking over our lives, but if you are reading this message, it already has! But it also can be a good thing. For all of the cards you can find on the internet (COMC preferably) there is no way you would have found at your annual BFE card/antique show...

A-Fraud

February 10, 2009 by powerfam

As much as I love A-Rod, what does this do to him and the future of baseball?! I mean, he was inline to shatter baseball's records. It imposes a black mark on baseball's dignity. On top of all that, what about his cards and autographs??? Tarnished!

Welcome

February 10, 2009 by powerfam

As a impatient user of checkoutmycards.com, I had constantly demanded a message board. But COMC had not delivered for their own reasons. No offense taken... :-) I feel that as buyers and sellers, communicating with each other rather than through a blog is enevitable. Why?! Because we all share a passion for sports and memorbillia. Whether trying to make a buck or completing a childhood collection, the need for us to speak to each other would be downright awesome. I've had lots of offers for my cards that I have rejected, but would love to give reason why, or talk to the person through the internet and to know if they are dedicating fan of that player to where I would give in, knowing the card was going to go home, or just going to be flipped by a money hungry "CARDSHARK."

Please by all means, join up and the possibilities would be upgraded to fulfill your own personal needs.
